Hacked or what?

So if you think you have been hacked the simplest thing is to go directly to the site in question, for example www.gmail.com log in and change the password. If you are worried about weather you have been hacked or pwned go here https://haveibeenpwned.com and insert your email or log in.

Black screen slow start and can not access system logs error.

Here's some tips if windows is giving you this problem.


1st try the Winsock Fix -
1. Click on Start button.
2. Type cmd in the Start Search text box.
3. Right click on cmd in the menu list and select Run As Administrator. Allow elevation request.
4. Type "netsh winsock reset" (without quotes) in the Command Prompt shell, and press Enter.
Restart the computer.

2nd  run chkdsk on the c: drive, you will need to schedule the scan and the shut down and restart.
** It will take 2 or 3 hours.

3rd  Delete all of the files in the following folder -
c:\windows\system32\winevt\Logs
This will have to be done from the a dos command prompt or a cd boot disk.

Phonecall from the windows help desk

At last the call I have been waiting for.

The caller said 'are you the main computer user in your house'
yes
'are you in front of your computer'
I was at work so..... yes
there then followed 15 minutes of various tests all of which were to prove my anti virus protection was not working. Then the bite he asked me to log into a remote control program website saying he was from the windows help desk and that he wanted to prove he was legitimate and from the computer builder. Hang on I said, windows did not build my computer its a shuttle x. I stopped him when he tried to skip this point, and he knew the game was up so he unleashed a tirade of abuse and slammed the phone down with my laughter ringing in his ears.

I have been waiting for this call because I know of a few people I support that have been caught by these nasty little people and I wanted to know how they did it and get my own back a bit.

Mflow

So Mflow has gone funny as well now. They report that they are working on a newer better system and everything will be back up and running soon. Odd!!! to say the least.

Sad Spotify

I am sad to anounce that spotify, one of my favorite music gadgets is changing as of the 1st of May. The free part of the service will become much more restricted. From that date on you will be limited to 5 plays of any one track and a much more limited play time. This is sad as it was very useful and enjoyable mainly because of its search engine.

Bank Account Fraud

I recieved an email, correctly addressed to me from Santander alerting me to the fact that due to them detecting unusual activity on my account they had restricted access to my account. This email also included a link to them to correct matters.

Being a sceptic through and through I went to my account directly but not using the provided link, to find that my account was as normal sitting quiely almost empty but without restriction or unusual activity.

Yet another scam but a convincing looking one.
