Virus, Malware, Rootkits and Trojans

If you have real problems with infection and can't get rid, I have tested StopZilla and by running it over and over again I managed to remove a realy bad infection the computer is now running fine.

It's £20 but it is worth it if your stuck. It works. It removed 33 the first time then 17, 11, 1, and hey presto all gone.

Being a big user of Opera Browser/Mail and always messing up my system I needed a backup program. Luckily someone else did as well and here it is.

NDAS Drive

I have installed a new 64bit win7 computer on our work network and hey presto nothing works. Most annoyingly the NDAS net drive. The reason, it transpired is that every computer on the network must be using the same version of the drivers. But the win7 computer needs the 64bit driver so I visited the ximeta web site to get the drivers. Be warned the wrong driver will install, but does not work and won't tell you why. Be warned also that most problems are caused by older drivers and some programs not working with a 64bit processor, you might want to check your programs and equipment (scanners, printers ect) first.

XP - no desk top icons or task bar

I am currently working on an XP install that after a virus removal by anti virus software has no desk top icons or task bar. The computer works ok apart from this. So heres my solution.

1: Using CTRL-ALT-DEL start task manager, you can run programs from here
2: Started Anti Virus software and scanned and removed any found virus
3: Started a web browser went to the Microsoft support site and found a hotfix by google using NO DESKTOP HOTFIX.
4: Received email from Microsoft, downloaded and implemented the fix.
